He thought it was the sort of place in which children would settle, so they bought a house where Lorna would look after those children. When she has no official wards to care for, she tries to help by looking after village children when that would help parents in a fix. For example, when the McBurrows moles were having  temporary problem changing accommodation,  Delvin and Monty McBurrows stayed with her.

Dolly Dale supplies Candy Floss to the village from her mobile sweetie-cycle.

Despite the fact Mellowdene isn't on or near the coast, there is a presence from the Seaside Restaurant franchise. This was mainly thanks to Lawrence Seabreeze and his passion for the sea. Some might consider this unusual but this is not the place to discuss the various attributes of Sylvanian ageing. Suffice to say that Sylvanians have different physical stages in their lives. This seems more pronounced with Sylvanian birds - one need only look at the Websters in Mellowdene - adults that continue to be diminutive in size.

The Roberts Badgers (1)

Bartholomew (Bobby) Roberts is a member of the Greater Sylvanian Police service. With the rise in the population of Mellowdene the GSP thought they should have a representative here. Bobby moved here to offer what help he could to the home-grown Sheriff's Department. When it became evident that Bisto Wildwood's methods were well-suited to the county, Bobby was happy to adopt the same techniques. He has effectively taken over the liaison role with other police areas, freeing the Sheriff from this administrative role - which suits Bisto!

The Treefellow owl family (9)

Aristotle and Arabella Treefellow are long-standing semi-residents of Mellowdene. They have a small home in a copse of trees within the village, but their family home is within the woodlands across the river.

They have two sets of triplets: Winky, Blinky and Grumpy are one. The others are Fussy, Sniffy and Grizzly. Together, these six small owls assist their parents in their calling for knowledge and understanding.

Winky (orange jerkin) is able to see the absurd possibilities in a potential situation. His pale eyes almost light up with his ideas.

Blinky (yellow jerkin) is sometimes able to make weird connections, thinking laterally, but that requires him to take brief naps.

Grumpy (red jerkin) is able to see the down side of any situation, which, given the upbeat nature of Sylvanians, is a unique skill. It does give the impression that he is indeed grumpy but this isn't really the case.

Fussy (blue jerkin) is a stickler for accuracy.

Sniffy (pale blue jerkin) is eager to find solutions.

Grizzly (green jerkin) is particularly empathetic, and he is almost tearful with joy or sadness. Thankfully the latter has no effect on his psyche.

Xenophon Treefellow is another owl of note. It is unknown how closely he is related to Aristotle, if at all.

The Porcini (Curlicue) pig family (1)

Ricardo Porcini is a single pig who is addicted to going on holiday. He has turned his hobby into a career. A resident of Minestrone House, he works hard as a travel writer to earn the funds for his travelling and accommodation. His books are popular throughout Sylvania.

He has mentioned that he has a brother called Roberto but didn't go into details.

MINESTRONE HOUSE

(Any count only includes those not already counted in families)

Minestrone House is a set of apartments owned by Henry Bearbury. It was originally conceived as accommodation for hospital staff, but is now open to other residents. Henry and his family live nearby and his brother Bruno lives on-site as the maintenance man.

Residents include:
  • Bruno Bearbury
  • Stella & Belle Chocolate
  • William Cinnamon
  • Liam Fenton
  • Tegan Golightly
  • Ashley Maces
  • Cheshire, Gilda, Darius and Adam Maces
  • Doctors Terence and Elliot Murdoch
  • Finn Persian
  • Ricardo Porcini
  • Bruin Redbear
  • Roxy Renard
  • Victor Sandy
  • Samuel Stamp
  • Roland Tailbury
  • Beaky and Billy Webster

Here are some more details. For villagers already mentioned with their families, this may be considered supplementary information.

Postman Samuel Stamp lives here. His chosen rooms are near the entrance of the apartment complex in order that he minimises the disturbance to other residents when he has to work early.

Cheshire and Gilda Maces live here with their children as does Cheshire's father Ashley Maces. Gilda is house-mother of Minestrone House, but also works as an auxilliary nurse at the cottage hospital. Ashley is the business mind behind Mice & Clean although he generally takes a backseat to the hard-working Hazelwood brothers.

Roland Tailbury is a keen golfer and lives in an apartment next to Ashley Maces. They are good friends and are always happy to meet for a chat or a game.

Members of Captain Seadog's "motley crew" - Beaky Webster, Oscar Marmalade, Twitch Hazelwood and Murky Waters - sometimes stay here when they are not living with their own families.

Cheshire & Gilda, Beaky, Ashley and Samuel

Stella and Belle Chocolate share an apartment with Tegan Golightly. One of the reasons they have chosen to live there is the availability of a soundproof music room, so Belle and Tegan don't have to hold back when practising their violin and cello playing. Stella's boyfriend William Cinnamon periodically takes a room at Minestrone House too.

  1. Love all your families, the names and lives you have given them! i'm impressed with your organizational skill..if you don't mind sharing, how do you store them? i've not been collecting SF for very long, and have concentrated on buildings to make my village, Thistledown. i've just started on the families, don't have room to keep them in their boxes, and could use some advice to keep them safe. thanks for sharing...

    1. Hi 4 Thistledown!

Glad to have you aboard. One of the reasons for starting the blog, other than writing stories, was to have somewhere to document and provide a little organisation to keep track of my collection.

The vast majority of my Sylvanians are second-hand (pre-loved seems to be the fashionable term) from eBay, so whilst not in poor condition, they are not mint as new. My storage method would probably be disdained by proper collectors, as I simply try to keep them where household dust is unlikely to settle. At the end of my hallway there is a display cabinet that contains glassware. The glassware is crammed more than it used to be because most of my Sylvanians are in there, peeking out where possible. As my collection as grown I have added plastic trays in there so that more figures can be packed into the cabinet, lying down. As I said, pure collectors would be horrified! Now, I have some plastic craft drawers on top of the cabinet, where bears, pandas and dogs live.

It works for me because they are readily accessible for photo sessions and I can see most of my bunnies, which I enjoy. If you want to take better care of your Sylvanians, I'm sure there are long-standing collectors on the forum who can give you good advice! I think some people store them in containers ensuring figures don't touch, including silica gel and more. I wouldn't have space to do that.

I hope you get the information you seek. The members of the collectors' forum are lovely people and will be happy to give you better guidance, meeting your needs.

    1. If you have a gmail account, you can log onto the Blogger site (it is one of Google's products) and register - you don't necessarily have to create a blog. You can, however, give yourself an avatar name and a picture if you wish. That's where my Jackson Butterglove avatar/pic was set up.

Whilst logged in, I am recognised and can comment as Jackson on any other blogs. I have another gmail account that I have linked with my Darcy Fielding avatar. Giving the latter author authority on this blog allows me to write/comment as either Sylvanian character, simply by logging on with the associated gmail account.

I hope this doesn't sound too complex. It's easier to do than describe.

If you don't want the hassle, that's fine. "Unknown" comments are appreciated too, and you can always sign-off with your Sylvanian alias!
