The Dogs of Mellowdene (175)

The dog population of Mellowdene is of sufficient size to be documented separately, which is the reason for this page. Please note, however, although details are here, the count is included in the Other Inhabitants section.

Seadog family (8)

The Columbus Seabreeze rabbit family also own the pleasure cruiser Marita May which - unlike the Rose of Sylvania 2 - does not frequent the inland waterways of Sylvania. When it isn't moored at the dock it ventures down river towards the coast, and is invaluable for transporting passengers and goods. Sometimes the Marita May takes sea trips.

Horatio Seadog is the captain of the Marita May, and his crew usually comprises First Mate Beaky Webster, Able Seamouse Twitch Hazelwood ably assisted by cabin boy Murky Waters and Oscar Marmalade.

Horatio's brothers Amos, Irwin and Owen are based in Dockside Cottage and ensure that the boats are kept in ship-shape condition.

Horatio is, in fact, married to Jane and they have a son Drake Francis and a daughter Suzanne. To the casual observer, this would come as a surprise given Horatio's "out and about" nature. The time they do spend together may be shorter than many families, but this is quality time. Jane and Suzanne report they are happy with the arrangement as it allows them to pursue their hobbies - away from the water.

Drake attends nautical school away from Mellowdene as some of the subject matter is not covered by the local school. This includes some aspects of physics and mathematics that he wants to cover in order to become an engineer. This is only a part time course but at certain times of the year he has to spend longer at the school. It does mean he sadly misses some family occasions. 

Owen Seadog has a son Cornel who lives with his late wife's family the Paperbarks.

Barker Golden Labrador family (5)

Fenton Barker works in the well-appointed galley aboard the Marita May. When the ship is not in use, he is in charge of the catering at the informal snack bar on East Dock Lane.

Fenton's younger brother Jerry Barker is married to Margo and they have two children Tarquin and Jocasta.

Basset family (6)

Kelly and Millie Bassett own the boarding house near the docks, providing accommodation for visitors to Mellowdene. They have a son Charlie, and a daughter Carlotta. 

Kelly's brother Manfred and his wife Cora also work there.

 Carlotta is a budding actress and she takes full advantage of Kenneth Furbanks' acting club, attending with her friend Gregory Cheshire.

The Beagle family (7)

Percy and Prunella Beagle have five children. The two oldest are Barnaby and Beverley.  The younger two are Harold and Antonia. William Beagle is the toddler.

Brushwood Shiba Dog family (6)

Kent and Anna Brushwood have a son Eight and daughter Nana and twins Maru and Momo. 

Cakebread family (11)

Frank and Veronica Cakebread have a son Eric, daughters Melinda and Melita, and tinies Milo and Mindy.

Frank has a brother Thaddeus. He is married to Lydia and they are parents to Laura and Gideon.

Caramel family (5)

Lance and Vivian Caramel have two daughters Melanie & Carlie and a tiny son Justin. Melanie works alongside Felicia Marlowe in the Dante's dress hire shop Clobber. The business expanded to include the sale of fashionable footwear, and Melanie usually takes charge of this element.

Dan and Rolly Checkers have school age children Ron and Ann plus two tinies Nico and Connie.  

DePembroke family (4)

Duke and Queenie DePembroke have a son Earl and daughter Duchess

Doughty family (8)

This family of chiffon dogs comprises Gordon and Delia Doughty and their children David and Karen and tiny Brooklyn. They also have twin babies Austin and Nigella. Gordon's brother Heston is a lodger at the Hunter-Smyth house.

Gordon runs a Hamburger Wagon business that provides mobile catering to a variety of sites.

 

Farthing family (8)

Harley and Penny have six children - sons Vespa and Davis, and daughters Wren, Tuppence, and Brittania (Britt) and tiny Rally.

Fenton Cream Labrador family (6)

Barker Fenton is married to Lucy and they have two school-age children Buddy and Sadie and tiny Poppy. They have an older son Liam.

 

 

They are very close to the Barker family. So much so that their parents named their first-born sons after each other! Fenton Barker and Barker Fenton are still great friends.

 

 

Liam Fenton is a young chap no longer living with his parents. He lives at Minestrone house with his friends Finn Persian and Victor Sandy.

Fletcher Border Collie family (6)

Stanley and Petunia Fletcher have four children: Scott and Jodie plus the twins Jeremy and Mia.

 

 Forrester family (4)

Ryan and Rachael Forrester have two children: Patch and Penny. 

 

 

Henry-Lloyd Chocolate Dalmation family (7)

Ben and Pippa Henry-Lloyd have a son Zac and daughters Sarah and Juliette. 

 

 

Ben's parents are Willard and Augusta. 

Huckleberry hound dog family (8)

Hubert Alan Huckleberry is married to Hatty Bayer and they have children Dennis and Esme.

Hatty's brother is Jack Bayer. He has children Chloe, Kimball and Tarik.

  Hunter-Smyth Chocolate Labrador family (10)

Camilla and Charles Hunter-Smyth have a son Hector, daughters Isabella and Scarlett  and tiny Thomas. They have a lodger Heston Doughty. Hector is best friends with Tam Tailbury (the Tailbury family live next door), and Tam is often found in the Hunter-Smyth house. 

Nelson and Jeanette Hunter-Smyth are singers. The Bear Pit Club is but one of the venues they perform. They have a daughter Rose-Marie and a son Fergus. Whereas Rose-Marie tends to follow her parents' artistic pursuits, Fergus is a more rough and tumble boy!

The Husky family (9)

Vincent and Avril Husky have a large family. Pauline and Hayden are the oldest, Amber and Jeremy are the twins, and the tiniest of triplets are Rae (in yellow), Drake (in pink) and Nelly (in blue). 

 

 

The Kennelworth Dalmation family (7)

Montgomery and Dorothy Kennelworth have two school age sons Rufus and Michael, two daughters Clara and Hannah, and a tiny son Timothy.

Lopez Chihuahua family (10)

Cesar and Conchita Lopez has a son Pablo, a daughter Laya and a tiny girl Joelynda .

Cesar has a brother Alessandro (Sandro) who is a teacher at the school. He is married to Consuella who works in the Sheriff's Department.  They have children Jorge, Julietta and Pedro.

The McWalkies West Highland Terrier family (8)

Angus and Muriel McWalkies have a daughter Janet and son Hamish.

Angus's brother Finlay is married to Moira and they have children Duncan and Dougal.

The Paperbark Maple Dog family (3)

Chervil Paperbark married Cicely Growling and they have a daughter Angelica. Ciceley's sister Jenna was married to Owen Seadog and they had a son Cornel. Since Jenna sadly passed and Owen could be away for extended periods, it made sense that Cornel would have more stability living with his aunt's family. 

Patches dog family (5)

Antonio and Dorothy Patches have three children, Bertie and Bella and tiny Bo (Bowden). Antonio works with the Manely family providing a fur and hair grooming business called Groomers. It provides a service for the long-haired crittizens of Mellowdene who prefer not to self groom.

Tailbury Ochre Dog family (7)

Victor and Purdy Tailbury have a son Tam and two daughters Jeannie and Maggie. Victor's father Roland lives at Minestrone House at an apartment next to that of Ashley Maces. They share a love of golf.  The family are close neighbours to the Hunter-Smyth family. Tam and Hector are best friends.

The Umberhound family (7)

Berndt and Monika Umberhound have two daughters - Astrid and tiny Adele. Berndt's brother Rory is married to Candice and they have a son Erik.

Karl and Frieda Wuffi have children Lukas and Gretchen.

(These figures are from the Baerenwald Forest Friends range, and I'm not aware of any forenames assigned to them.)
