The Cats of Mellowdene (174)

The mountain range to the northwest of Mellowdene helps protect the village from extremes of weather. It also boasts a cluster of undulating foothills along its length, and should one follow these eastwards moving away from the county, you will find pockets of small shacks and cottages that are homes to the hill cats. This is the community of Catsholme.

They are probably the reason that there were few cats living in Mellowdene. This has changed greatly in recent years, and the connecting canal has helped in this respect. Convenience has led to rooms being secured in  the village, and these are periodically occupied by members of the Keats, Dante, Fisher and McCavity families who work on the canals. There is even a "cat district" called the Mews, conveniently located adjacent to the canal.

These are a sample of  more permanent settlers, choosing to live in Mellowdene. In particular, the Persis family use its facilities for the benefit of the kittens in their care.

Nowhere near in size to Timbertop Farm, but it provides them with most of their food and provides enough income to support their extended family. He has a brother Nolan and he is married to Kara with whom he has a daughter Naomi.  They have two foster children Dion and Auden Cat-wood.

They all live in apartments at Minestrone House but Tegan lives separately from her siblings. As she is a talented cellist she has chosen to live with violinist Belle Chocolate and her cousin Stella Chocolate.

Fred's brother Ken Golightly works at Mellowdene School and supervises sports, games and gymnastics. He provides advanced coaching for one of his students - the ambitious and talented gymnast Judy Darwin.

Holly's brother is Johnny Silk. He has three children - Samuel, Susie and tiny Kenny. He is married to Bronwyn Simpkins.

Johnny is an expert in community law, and his knowledge of variations in by-laws and conventions within different Sylvanian communities means he is employed on a permanent retainer with Mellowdene Council.

Holly met her husband-to-be when she accompanied her brother for clothes shopping. They struck up conversation when she saw both tom cats choosing almost identical clothes.

Anouska, Axel, Anton and tiny Arya Silk are also Mellowdene residents. They live with Felix Cheshire and his family.

The younger sister Arabella, together with her husband Troy Dante, manage some Mellowdene rooms for the crew and other cats who aren't living with a settled family.

Arabella, Troy

Troy and Arabella also own a small dress hire shop Clobber. They bring in posh clothes from outside Mellowdene and are often seen modelling them, especially the wedding clothes! With the administration of the lodging rooms, Troy and Arabella can't devote as much time to working in Clobber as they would wishut they do as much as they can. It became easier when they employed Felicia Marlowe.

Wordsworth, Abbie, Edna Millie

William Wordsworth Keats is first mate of The Rose of Sylvania II canal boat, and his wife Edna-Millie chooses to handle the catering on the long journeys, insisting that the crew need to be heartily fed. Alonzo has a brother Mungo who is the nominal captain of the canal boat that connects Mellowdene to the hill cat community of Catsholme and beyond, leading to Acorn Valley. Comparatively recently, Mungo married Mary Catamaran a descendant of a line of sea cats.

Mungo is accompanied sometimes by his stepson Midge and nephew Rumpus on the boat. He used to have a room in the village reserved for him by Troy and Arabella Dante, but since his marriage they have taken a small apartment in the Mews.

The Sandy family are related to the McCavity family. There is father Simon, mother Amelia, school-age children Shane and Sabrina plus a kitten Scott who attends the Persis Cat Nursery. There is also an older son Victor who has left home.

Marina joins Rose, Natalie, Olive, Mason and Lily

Felicia is the oldest and she lives in one of the accommodation rooms managed by Troy and Arabella Dante. This is particularly convenient as she has a job in the Dante's dress hire shop Clobber.

Mason's niece Marina is an avid swimmer - so much so that she spends much of her spare time in pool her uncle had built in their back garden. She wears her swimming costume whenever she can.

Mason has a brother Melvin married to Atlanta. As well as daughter Marina they have two sons, Troy and Sheridan. They dress in more practical clothes.

Mason and Melvin's family did not originate from the hill cat communty; they were raised as sea cats. Mason Marlowe had business dealings with Lawrence Seabreeze and it was a combination of this, combined with discussions with his wife Natalie, that led to them moving to Mellowdene. Moving into an upmarket property on Cherry Blossom Avenue, one of their first projects was to build the swimming pool.

Melvin and his family are more down-to-earth than Mason's family - Atlanta also being descended from sea cats - but they are still very close. When they moved to Mellowdene, they took up residence in the Mews area, allowing them to associate with other cat families living there. As has been mentioned, daughter Marina tends to spend a lot of time at her relative's swimming pool!

Cressida, Floella, Gilford and tiny Lief and Snowdrop Tuxedo are also residents. They live with Felix Cheshire and his family.

The Whiskers Cat Family (5)

Sebastian Whiskers is married to Katrina and they have children Branson, Amelia and tiny Mallory.

Grimalkin family (2)

Tamara Grimalkin and her son Tomas work with Lennox Murr-Grand.

(These figures are from a Beatrix Potter flocked figure range and I believe them to be Tabitha Twitchit and her son Tom Kitten.)

Murr cat family (3)

Leona Murr paired up with Lennox Grand and - together with her children Claudia and Caesar - took the name Murr-Grand.

(These figures are from the Baerenwald Forest Friends range, and I'm not aware of any forenames assigned to them. I will associate them with the lions - in particular Lennox Grand, who will be known as Lennox Murr-Grand.)

Lions (4)

Grand (3) & Redmayne (1)

The famous pianist Lionel Grand is not a permanent resident of Mellowdene but should be mentioned because of his professional relationship with the songwriting team of Butterglove & Snow-Warren. He has grown to like this pair of friendly rabbits. Lionel also has an association with another resident - Roxy Renard. He has worked with her when she sang under her professional name of Roxanne Renoir.

Although unmarried he has a relationship with Rory Redmayne.

Lionel does have blood relations. His brother Lennox Grand has a son Lawrence.

Lennox is married to Leona Murr and has adopted her children. They now share the surname Murr-Grand, although some of their longstanding contacts refer to them by their unmarried surnames.

The couple have also adopted seven children (mixed Sylvanian races). These are Marriott Bubblebrook, Pumpkin Mulberry, Canberra Outback, Brooke Keats, Emmy Buckley, Clip Fielding and Hickory Wildwood.

    1. A big brother? That's interesting - I must look into that. Like many of my "new" purchases, they haven't yet been given an opportunity to appear in stories. I've grown to like the Sylvanian cats more in recent months. I've just added the Beaman cats from an eBay bundle and they are standing on my sideboard so that I can enjoy looking at them!

I only had a baby beagle for a long time, but recently made another eBay purchase. They are indeed nice.

Karine suggested I share my stories to the group, so I'll continue to do that periodically - not wanting to post too much at once. I see that you've been reading ahead! Nothing wrong with that! Glad you're getting to know my Mellowdenians!
